The colored pencil course is currently in progress and around 60 percent of the work is already done. Just a little more patience. I really want this course to be very good, clear, and detailed, which is why I am taking my time to build it properly. It’s really not as bad as you’re describing it. It’s already very good for a first pastel, honestly. You can clearly see observation and effort there. With time and practice, you’ll naturally uncover more skills and confidence. Just keep going and enjoy the process.

Yesterday I told you that I love your style, and this is exactly why. Being able to draw a whole character using just two or three pencils is really fascinating. That kind of restraint and control is not easy at all.

Hi all, i want to start playing with some scale pieces and what to know what youve experienced in changing something from small to large and having to make areas darker to compensate for the increased size?
And in reverse when youve scaled down a drawing.

That’s a really good question, Patrick, and you’re thinking about exactly the right thing 👍
When you scale a drawing up, you almost always need to **push the dark values more**. On a larger surface, light and mid tones spread out visually, so if the darkest darks stay timid, the whole drawing can start to look flat or washed out. Bigger… Read more

I would like to follow with another question. I am struggling with dark (black) areas, to get good dark black with my graphite pencils I find I am having to press way to hard and in doing so flattening the paper and also getting a high sheen. It also means I can not erase any mistakes. Any advice????

Back in 2021 i did my first tutorial from Ali. The Wet Face is from 2021 and the second photo is five years later.
I was tweeking at the drawing this afternoon and then I realised that enough is enough. I hung it proudly at our wall 🥰

What matters most is that you can *see* your own progress and feel proud of it. That awareness and satisfaction is a huge part of growth as an artist. Hanging it on your wall was the perfect decision.
