Drawing Community 2 months agoI m frustrated — I just can’t get shading right. No matter what videos I watch or what technique I try, it always turns out ugly… I draw everything freehand. I’m using Canson XL Bristol 180gsm paper, which was recommended to me by a lady from this community.

If you ask me, I quite liked your style, it has a genre to it. I want to know if you have any reference image?

Hi Hermann, I get how frustrating this stage can feel. Shading is one of those things that refuses to improve overnight, and it’s completely normal to struggle with it in the beginning. The good news is that nothing in your work shows a lack of talent. What you’re missing right now are just the basics of value control and pressure control, and… Read more

Thank you so much Hermann, that really means a lot to me 😊 I’m happy my explanation helped, and I’m sure with a little practice you’ll start seeing the results you want. I’m always here if you need any guidance along the way.
Sending warm regards back to Germany and happy drawing 🎨💙- View 1 reply

Broo @ali i created this so picently but unfortunately my surface not that smooth i try so hard to make as smooth i can i use local sketch book 😄 now you think my shading better than before 👻😗
-
Brooo Umi this is a huge improvement 😄 your shading is definitely better than before! I can actually see how much smoother your transitions have become, even though the paper texture is fighting you a little 😂
And don’t worry about the local sketchbook. A rough surface just means you have to layer a bit more and blend with lighter pressure. You… Read more1- View 2 replies

Ya all what you think about this drawings i am a beginner is there any proficnal can tell me mistakes @ali ❤😗

Umair you’ve done a really good job here. For a beginner this is solid work and you’re clearly putting in the effort. The main thing I’d suggest is to slow down on shading and try to build your values in lighter layers so the drawings look smoother and more controlled. Also keep an eye on edges. Sharp edges for shiny objects like cars and… Read more

Drawing Community 2 months agoHows it guyz, I can't draw fur properly
-
Hey Vyshnav, don’t worry at all, this is completely normal when you’re just starting out. Fur is honestly one of the trickiest textures for beginners, so you’re doing totally fine. Keep practicing and you’ll see a big difference very soon.
For a proper breakthrough, try watching Module 6 Lesson 3 inside the course. That lesson covers the full… Read more1

Hi Marianne, this is a wonderful first drawing test and you should feel proud of it. You’ve captured the overall shape really nicely, especially the iris light reflection and the eyelid form. The eyelashes also show good direction and confidence.
If you want to improve even more, try adding a smoother transition in the skin shading around the… Read more1 -

Drawing Community 2 months agoA recent portrait
This is my most recent portrait done in graphite, im terrible at drawing hair i dread it i feel it ruins my portraits, and drawing every one bald doesnt go over so well.

Hey Suzanne! 😊
You did a really lovely job on this portrait. The features look soft and expressive, and you’ve captured a warm feeling in her eyes.
And don’t worry about the hair at all. Hair is one of the hardest things for every artist in the beginning. The trick is to think of it as groups of shapes, not individual strands. Once you start… Read more -
Thank you Ali, for your kind words and encouragement! This is a picture of my friends daughter who passed away 3 years ago . I presented her with the portrait last night and she cried. She said “ my baby”, and broke down in tears and hugged me ☺️.

Hallo Ali,

Read more

Drawing Community 2 months agoButterfly and cat
Thanks to Ali Haider,
Helped me greatly with my dilemma, now I can’t stop springkling charcoal
I used carbon black charcoal powder , 8B, 3B, HB, pencil eraser, highlight Pen for butterfly wing tip and nose shade and whiskers, this is closest I have been to realism drawing, I still need a lot of patience as experts will notice I tried to walk out…
-
This looks amazing Abbasi! You’ve pushed the textures really well, especially around the nose and the whiskers. The butterfly wing highlights are clean too.
And trust me, noticing the tiny areas you want to fix is actually a good sign it means your eye for realism is improving fast.
Keep going, your patience is paying off beautifully!1- View 1 reply

Hey Abbasi! 😊
Since you asked where to focus next, I had another careful look at your drawing. Honestly, you’ve already nailed the hardest parts. The textures on the cat’s face, the fur direction, the nose, and especially the butterfly wing highlights all very well done.
If you want to push this even further, here are two small areas that will… Read more1- View 2 replies

That’s a solid quick sketch, Hermann! The structure of the shark is great especially the form and flow of the body. The contrast between light and dark tones gives it a lot of power, even though it’s a quick piece. If you ever revisit it, try softening the background a little more to make the shark stand out even stronger. Really nice energy… Read more

These look great Vyshnav! 🍐 The texture and shape are really well done you’ve captured that smooth pear skin beautifully. If you want to push it a little further, try deepening the shadows under the pears and darkening the cast shadow on the table. It’ll make them pop off the page even more. Overall, lovely work they already look tasty! 😄
