Jonathan, being self taught is truly fascinating, and it clearly shows in your work 👍

Drawing Community 4 weeks agoWhat kind of paper should I use to draw extremely realistic portraits? I'm having a lot of trouble with sketchbook paper. Should I use smooth paper or slightly textured paper? I would be very grateful for your help.😊
-
Hi Mehmet, I personally like to use a ultra smooth bristol paper. The only downside I have seen is it’s very sensitive to pressure so keep in mind of anything you have to erase and your pencil marks. It is reasonably priced and you can get it at most hobby stores or on amazon. Hope this is hopefully to you.

Your ideas are very valuable to me thank you

Hey Mehmet! @christina gave you a very good suggestion. For realistic portraits, paper really matters more than people think. If the paper fights you, everything feels harder.
Go for smooth paper, always. It makes blending easier, skin looks cleaner, and details like pores and hair stay under control. Rough sketchbook paper usually causes…

Hey Tracy 😊
You honestly amazed us with your very first drawing. And you picked a tricky subject too. Fur, a shiny beak, and strong contrast are not easy at all 👍
You did a fantastic job. The effort and courage really show in this piece. Well done, and keep moving forward. ✏️🎨1 - View more comments

Hi Mehmet
Your eyes are very captivating. They have good direction and a lot of feeling. I would like to see the finished complete portrait, hair and all.

Mehmet 😊
You draw faces and expressions really well.
The skin texture, the eyes, and the highlights on the nose are all very well placed. Everything feels natural and balanced. It’s looking very nice 👍
Keep going at this pace. You’re building something special 🎨1

Drawing Community 4 weeks agoBird in Pastels.
Just had a go at the bird in pastels, quite a few mistakes, my biggest problem is I am colour blind and often I pick a colour that I think it is without looking at the number,I will try harder next time, the other problem is rushing instead of taking my time

Alex, you’re being too hard on yourself. This bird is gorgeous. The colors look great

Thanks, Christina,

Hi Alex
Being color blind can be a blessing in disguise. I have an artist friend who is color blind and he creates some impressive color combinations in his art work.
3 -
When I am painting I have a card with holes in, I put one of the holes over the colour im trying to get, then mix my paints next to the hole until i get a match.
2 -
What a beautiful wave of positivity 😊
I’m honestly so impressed seeing you all help and motivate each other like this.
Alex, being color blind and still playing with colors, finding your own ways around it, that’s phenomenal. That mindset is exactly how artists grow. Limits don’t stop you. They shape your style 👍
And good news for… Read more2 - View more comments
