Drawing Peacock using Metallic pencils
This exclusive real-time tutorial was originally part of my Drawcember Challenge, a month-long series where I released one drawing every other day to encourage practice and consistency. In this lesson, I’ll show you how to draw a peacock using metallic colored pencils—although you can easily follow along with regular Faber-Castell Classic pencils if that’s what you have. We’ll begin with a simple head and beak outline, then layer blue for the base of the head and neck, adding circular textures for feather details. You’ll learn how to combine green and black for subtle contrasts around the eye and neck, how to shade the beak with white, brown, and black for a realistic finish, and how to detail the crown feathers with layered strokes. I’ll also explain my experience with metallic pencils—why the shine didn’t show well on camera and how regular pencils can give equally good results. For the finishing touch, we’ll use sharp white highlights with a gelly roll or correction pen to make the drawing pop. This tutorial is designed for beginners, so the process is simple, fun, and a great way to experiment with color layering. And as usual, the references of this tutorial are included in the Materials section.
